seen p. 141 of WIRED 14. 09 (September 2006 issue): NEXTFEST: Tomorrow's Tech Today [a "preview"]... The item above has an air of déjà vu as the leather (?) bag resembles other conventional looking leather totes... but it is not! It also recalls other products like BYOB and the Voltaic™ Solar Bags Speaking of “integration,” the solar item is sawn on the side. I’d like to see more of designs like those of Issey Miyake and Minagawa Makiko whose use of technology in the design and production process is exemplary. But it is still the work of an undergrad (the youth think tech!) and of great use for neo-nomads! + +

Hey Yaz,
Not sure if you remember me, but I knew you in Boston from the Euroclub. Been following your blog with interest. I’ve been living in Zurich for 2 years, and just spotted something in the Swiss in flight magazine that may or may not interest you (yet another solar bag): “An innovative idea for digital nomads: with its integrated solar cells, the Swiss “Sakku” messenger bag provides constant power for your cellphone, GPS, ipod or PDA. The bag is made of sails from sailing boats, making every one of these phenomenally durable bags unique.” Swiss Magazine, 10, 2006, pg 6. They have a website but unfortunately looks like it’s only in German: www.sakku.ch. Perhaps not entirely original, as it looks like you’ve already seen several other solar bags around, but since this one is made of recycled sails, it gives it a particularly Swiss flavor—kind of like the ultra trendy “Freitag” messenger bags (made from recycled tarps used on trucks) all the Swiss people seem to have…Hope all is well, take care -Adriana
